Thinking about elderly animals

We bring our elderly ewes in to the barn for the winter. Some are over 15 years old, and may struggle with arthritic joints if left outside. Indoors they are penned within their family groups, or individually where size difference might result in weaker individuals having less access to food.

We’ve started putting hay into the feeders so the sheep with fewer teeth can browse. The older ewes and rams are receiving small amounts of supplementary feed because they need to keep in good condition before the winter draws in.
